  1. I think, as a writer, as a creative person, you should not think of writing the next Catcher in the Rye. Instead you should focus in writing YOUR truth, your point of view of whatever the fuck is important to you, and let society, culture, the universe decide where it may fall or fit. When I taught, I quickly learned that the biggest inhibitor of greatness, was the pursue of greatness. You have to start in the trenches, in the dirt, in those places that people dare not go, and go there. You do not find greatness in the shadow of greatness, but in a new path, carved with a machete out of new consciousness. So then people can call it what they want. (This was a response I had in my writer’s workshop about writing.)
